Have a Listen: Guerre

I'm realizing that it's the summer of the bedroom and not the beach. We've had an extreme influx of great beat-based, neo-soul, vibes cloaked in a warm darkness thus far in 2011. Guerre is next in line for you Jamie Woon, James Blake, How To Dress Well lovin' people. People like me. The Toronto born, Sydney based musician just released Darker My Love, a seven song album that is streaming below and also available for a name your own price download via Bandcamp. Have a listen:

FACT Mag x Laurel Halo

Laurel Halo has just released the Hour Logic EP and it's pretty darn good. While it is less vocal than her previous work on King Felix, you'll find it in you to dance and be entranced. Last week I pointed to the Clams Casino FACT mix and now Laurel Halo has one available for download (three weeks only). Stream it below:

Because It's The Weeknd: So Many Issues

Earlier last week Drake released the song "Trust Issues" where we get to see the darker side of things from lyrics talking about well, trust issues, to the Babe Rainbow-esque slow beat. Then last night The Weeknd released a form of his own "Trust Issues", and it's no wonder he's got them after having listened to House Of Balloons a million times. The Weeknd posted the track as independent of the Drake song but there is also a "remix" circulating that positions The Weeknd's issues within Drake's. So without further ado, Youtube city:

Drake- Trust Issues

The Weeknd- Trust Issues

Drake + The Weeknd

And because this song and video is so damn rad, Babe Rainbow- Popcommon:

FACT Mag and Clams Casino

The latest FACT Mag mix comes from Clams Casino right before the release of his Rainforest EP via Tri Angle on the 27th. Keep watching this guy because he has taste and talent. Visit the FACT page for a good little interview with Clams. Stream the mix below and download for three weeks only:

Bear in Heaven x Mixtapes

Adam Wills, guitar and bass player for krautrock revivalists, Bear in Heaven put together two mix-tapes for two clothing companies. According to Bear in Heaven's Twitter, one is for day and the other for night. I'm not sure which is which though. I really dig the one he made for Rogan while the Loomstate one has some really great songs on it as well. Here they are in one place:

Rogan: Day?

Loomstate: Night?

Sunday Slow Down

Imagine yourself dropped into the middle of a lush, thick misted, and mystical jungle then launched into a warm spacescape where you become part of an abstract intergalactic light show. Say what? That’s just one of many feelings I get listening to Shabazz Palaces. Get familiar with this duo from Seattle, WA if you haven’t yet. They are the future of hip – hop and their debut full-length, Black Up will drop on June 28 via Sub Pop and surely impact everyone’s best of 2011 lists. (See GvB) Listen Below:

MP3: Swerve... The reeping of all that is worthwhile (Noir not withstanding)

Next up comes from a different realm. Mr. Ty Segall from San Francisco, CA will release Goodbye Bread this Tuesday, June 21, his first on Drag City records. For those familiar with Ty you’ll find him singing a bit more here than previously, and it works, cutting the fuzz in a way that leaves each track equally fulfilling.

Listen to his warm croon and signature catchy and often fuzzy guitar on the album’s title track, Goodbye Bread below:

Stream Clams Casino Rainforest EP

Clams Casino's first set of beats on his self-titled album were used by the likes of Lil B and Soulja Boy and quite honestly even got me wanting to try my hand at some rhymes. You can now stream five new songs that make the Rainforest EP, due for release by Tri Angle records on June 27th. It's heavy and pleasantly slow burning. Stream below:

UMM.. New Weeknd track

A new song by Toronto's The Weeknd just popped up this Wednesday evening. It's called The Birds (Part 1), which can only lead one to assume that there is at least a part 2 waiting in the wings somewhere. Lets just hope the new mixtape (Thursdays) drops sooner than later.

Download link here.

And if you don't have House of Balloons yet, your far beneath many rocks.
