The Smiths x Lana Del Rey

Thought this was interesting because when I found it my first thought was very skeptical. Something along the lines of, "haha fuckin' yeah right, dumb" (bites food). But it's oddly decent. I'm underwhelmed by new music so far this week so this is mainly suplemental. My apologies.

Nicolas Jaar remixes Shlohmo

Shlohmo, the L.A. based producer best known for his minimal bass structures recently released his "Vacation EP" and Nicolas Jaar is not far behind with a remix of "It Rained the Whole Time."

Even more important on the Jaar radar is this little video Pitchfork put together from the MoMA PS1 multimedia show that Nico hosted. Watch and get a glimpse of why this man is one of the leading musical visionaries of today.

Chromatics: 'Lady'

YES!! This was a great way to wake up this morning, a brand new Chromatics song (and video) from their upcoming album, Kill For Love. 'Lady' has smooth synths, sultry vocals and a disco pulse. I'm starting to wonder if Johnny Jewel is actually human with the quantity of quality output he produces.

Rhye: 'Open'

The mysterious L.A. duo, Rhye, are bound to be making waves in the coming months with their smooth and sultry pop. 'Open' seems to be their first single and it's a deeply beautiful track feeling like it could have been written by Damien Rice. The video, below, is so sexy it may or may not make you uncomfortable depending on your viewing situation. It's not exactly safe for work.

...and Valentines

The ultimate Valentines day song goes to Sir Chris Isaak. I Remember growing up on these songs. May your hearts ache peacefully.

Evy Jane: 'Sayso'

Evy Jane is an R&B duo out of Vancouver ready to make a splash in the sexual grooves scene this year. Watch the video for the song 'Sayso' below. It has a pretty melancholy tick and thump bass-line and subdued female vocals, just what you want for these colder days. Album info here.

Burial: Kindred EP

After having leaked this weekend, Hyperdub records makes a wise decision to put Burial's latest 3 song EP up streaming over at the Hyperdub website. Burial has always been a bit of a mysterious face in the battle against genre definition. Kindred EP is no departure from this pattern, in fact, it shows growth in multiple directions for the South London producer. Do yourself a favor and give a good listen, don't listen as background music, listen as if very important secrets were being whispered to you across a very long hallway. 'Ashtray Wasp' seems to be the favorite right now as it's like three songs in one and the end hits like a beautiful calm after a storm that's left the whole world in a terrible deluge. This is contending for release of the year already. LISTEN HERE!

Julia Holter: "In the Same Room"

Mastermind behind one my favorite records of 2011, Julia Holter,  is preparing the release of her second album, Ekstasis due March 8th. "In the Same Room" is the second track available from the record. It's a rather soft and charming tune. Listen below.
